Programming wire edm machine mainly uses an electrode wire made of moving metal wire (molybdenum wire, copper wire or alloy wire) to generate pulse electric spark discharge by the interaction of electrode wires, and the metal melts or vaporizes under the action of high temperature, so as to produce slits and cut parts.

2. Machining characteristics of programming wire edm machine
① It is suitable for processing parts with small batch and complex switch, and the cycle of processing single parts and trial products is short. Because the metal removal rate of wire cutting is low, it is not suitable for machining large quantities of parts with simple shape.
② In the machining process, the electrode wire does not directly contact the workpiece, and the effect between them is very small. Therefore, the deformation of the workpiece is small, and the electrode wire and fixture do not need too high strength.
③ The electrode wire is 0.03 ~ 0.35 fine metal wire, which does not need specific shape, and can save the design and manufacturing cost of the electrode.
④ As long as it is conductor and semiconductor materials, it can ensure high-precision machining with low loss of electrode wire without considering the workpiece material.
⑤ Using water-based emulsion as working fluid has low cost. There will be no flood.
⑥ Four axis linkage, easy to add different taper, upper and lower special-shaped bodies and other mail.
⑦ Non conductive materials cannot be cut by programming wire edm machine.
